This video shows an interaction that is strangely familiar to how I, and a number of friends of mine, are treated by some Christian fundamentalists.
In this video Irshad Manji is called names (devil in disguise, lunatic deceiver) by a more fundamentalist muslim and Irshad tries to argue that calling her such names is hateful speech. Her detractor argues that it is not, basically, because it is “true”.
Laredo to become largest city without a bookstore. But they are planning a snowpark.
People in Laredo will still get books I bet, but in a transaction through the mail. The local thing will be the experience.
Could well be the first fruits of the new world of experience over transaction/information.
I will be in Statesville,, North Carolina with the folks from The Victor on Monday, December 14. Come join in the goodness.
I am looking to head to Raleigh/Durham on the 15th to do some work planning the Free For All event (more on that in a few days) with Tim Conder. There might be a Raleigh/Durham get together that night, we will see. And, maybe something Wednesday morning with the Charlotte Emergent Cohort.
So, if you are in the North Carolina area and want to connect check back here or on FB and Twitter for details.

Here is a 9 minute video segment from my radio show today. At about the 4 minute mark I launch into an editorial on Afghanistan and the need to be involved in something more than protecting ourselves.
If you are one of the people who reads this blog or follows on FB/Twitter in relationship to church issues then please turn your attention and prayer to Matt Chandler. He is a pastor of a church in Texas and a friend of mine. He is having surgery on a brain tumor on Friday. Datails can be found here.
People have asked for it, so I will do it – Book Club Pricing on my books.
Order 4 of any book and I will ship 5. And the first 4 are only $10 each.
If you have a book club this is a great deal for you as the organizer. You can get 5 books for $40, or 10 for $80. Keep the free book for yourself or pass the savings on the other members.
Some people are planning Sunday School Classes or retreats on A Christianity Worth Believing and they can get the same 1 free with every 4 for the entire group. By the way, these are the hard cover ACWB books.
And as always the single books are only $10 each and the 5 book variety pack of all 5 is still $40.
This is an interesting article on Khalid Shaikh Mohammed. The fact that he initially suggested the seeds of the 9/11 attacks in 1996 and it still came as such a surprise to the intelligence community is stunning and really scary.
I have the great opportunity to talk with wonderful people on my radio show (Sundays 10AM-12Noon and online all the time). Regular guests include Shelley Pagitt, Carla Barnhill, Rabbi Edelheit. I also chat with authors and news makers.
Here is the list of author guests over the next two months:
Please consider joining us for a Social Media Boot Camp. This one is specially designed for pastors and ministry leaders but everyone is welcome. Feel free to download the flyer and spread the word to those not on Facebook.
You might be well equiped in the Social Media world, but do you know people who need some help?
You might know how to keep up with what is going on, but does the pastor or staff at your church?
My company, JoPaProductions is offering specially formulated and specially priced event for church leaders and pastors to learn Social Media.
Keep hearing about Facebook, Twitter, Youtube and blogs.
Do you feel out of touch when it comes to Social Networking?
We know it can be hard to navigate this strange new world.
We know it can be embarrasing and intimidating to admidt that you don’t know what to do.
In our one-day Social Media Boot Camps, veteran pastors and social mediaistas, Doug Pagitt and Tony Jones will guide you through the basics of the most popular social media services, including blogging, Facebook, and Twitter. You will learn how, in just three 30-minute periods each week, to have a social media presense that fits you.
We know that no one wants to add more work to their life by “updating their status”. But, we also know that when social media is done intentionally and correctly it can become a life giving and beneficial way to connect with people, learn and stay up to date.
This seminar will also help ministry leaders make the most of Social media for their ministries.
Imagine getting real-time feedback from your parishoners as you prepare your sermon, spreading the word about a church outreach program without buying a newspaper ad, or posting a YouTube welcome to new neighbors in your community.
All of this is possible, and it doesn’t have to be intimidating. In fact, we’ll make it fun!
The Pastors’ Social Media Bootcamp costs $95 and includes lunch. All you need to bring is yourself and your laptop (borrow one if you have to!). We meet from 9am till 4pm at Solomon’s Porch in South Minneapolis. Online registration is a breeze, and you have three dates to choose from (each Boot Camp is limited to 50 registrants)
