I did phone interview with Chris Rosebrough who hosts an internet radio show called Fighting For The Faith.
He wanted to talk about the content of my book. He is, by self description, “not really in my camp”, but the conversation was healthy.
He posted the interview on his show with his lead in and comments but I felt like my copy of the recording sounds better, so I am posting my recording.
I start the recording when I called him at a hotel in Illinois (Not to brag but I had to pay the long distance for the hour-long call. His show, but I paid - oh, I think I just hurt my arm patting myself on the back). I left in all the little chit-chat, Chris’ copy has removed it. I think it adds a sense of warmth.

Here is a video from our first day visiting the Compassion headquarters in El Salvador.
They do an amazing job of connecting sponsors with the children. There are 33,000 children sponsored in El Salvador. And many of them are in written contact with their sponsors.

I just returned from my trip to Seattle for the Seeds of Compassion event. What a special couple of days.
I made a video of my reflection of the event. I have picture in my flickr page - you can see them by following the link on the right side (if you are actually on dougpagitt.com and not just reading the RSS feed).
The long and short of it was that I was on a panel with Desmond Tutu and 8 other people. The topic was “what do we do to build compassion” in young people of our communities. As it turned out I was one of the only panelists who was from a particular community. So many of the other responses were more big ideas than practical suggestions.
To watch the webcast go of the panel here and scroll to Tuesday. The linked both panels together so it is like 4 hours long. My part is about the 3:40 and 4:00
Here is a screen grab of the panel.

The video below are my reflections on the entire event.

Tony did a fabulous presentation at the Emerging Church for the Existing Church event.
A few of us sat in the back and made a little fun commentary during his presentation.

Russell, pastor of House Of Mercy in St Paul, and I chatted for about a half hour. The conversation was mostly about preaching and the books we each wrote - Post-Rapture Radio and Praching Reimagined.

In many ways these books are saying opposite things about preaching, but they are also saying the same thing. We chatted in the sanctuary of his church building in St. Paul. We also video taped the conversation and are going to try and do something with it.
If you have not yet picked up his book you should.
The conversation lasts 31 minutes.

This will be the final chapter upload for a while (I might post chapter 11 the week the book releases).
Chapter 3 of A Christianity Worth Believing - From Amen to Uh Oh is where the tention starts to build. It is just minutes into my Christian
experience that I realize something funny with the approach to presenting Christianity with a generic presentation. This chapter becomes an important hinge in the book as it introduces the idea that our faith ought to always be changing, seeking and growing.
Here is Chapter 3 From Amen to Uh Oh
The reading is chapter 2 and 3 together.

Here is chapter 2 - All the chapter write-ups and downloads when available (plans for downloads of chapters 1-3 and 11) can be found on the ACWB page.
Brief background on Chapter 2 – “Passion Play” – centers on my introduction into Christianity. This is the section where you meet my family, learn about the Village and realize that while not being in on the Christian story yet God was alive and moving in me. It tells of my start into the faith. I suggest reading chapter 3 right after 2, they make a nice combo.

I received this link the other day and just watched it.
It is really great. It is by Jill Bolte Taylor - she is a brain scientist.
TED Talks are billed as Ideas Worth Spreading - I think this on certainly is.
You can download it or watch it in full size from here.

This link will take you to a podcast of a conversation I did with Bill Leonard (Wake Forest Univeristy) and Tim Conder (The Emmaus Way Community).

The podcast is done by Homebrewed Christianity (Tripp and Chad) so you will have to put up with their ramblings for a bit, but it might be worth the listen. (Actually if it is the case then that might say more about your options in life than the material). But Bill is certainly worth listening to.

This post includes an audio version in the podcast at the bottom of the post.
I should begin this post with a few admissions.
1. I love following presidential politics – I follow it like some people follow sports. I know the people behind the people. I watch Sunday morning news programs and sit in my driveway to finish stories on NPR. I love this stuff in all it’s minutia.
2. I believe that this country’s wonderful political experiment is dependent on the people not the leaders (of the people, by the people).
3. I believe there is only so much a president can do, and that is a good thing. The system is set-up to limit power. I about pull my hair out (what I have) when I hear presidential candidates make promises that do not fit into the power of presidency – I find it to be the most dishonest politicking.
All the candidates have been raising the issue of the tough economic time many in our country are living through. And it certainly is true for far to many. And the pending economic recession is certainly going to hit many.
But here is what I don’t get, and leads to my challenge: if so many people are having a tough time economically where are people getting this money to send to presidential candidates?
I mean seriously how can some one receive 100 million dollars just to try and win the primary. And not just one guy, but two and a woman. I mean every month these three are stepping up saying “we received 3 million yesterday” or “50 million last month”.
So here is my call: (more…)
