France, Italy vacation update and slide shows

Friday, August 22nd, 2008

We had a fabulous time in France and Italy.

We were welcomed by the people of each country and by our friends - Craig and Laura in Paris, Erik in Nice, Annie in Rome. You will see these people (Erik’s place) in the slide shows.

The trip was for Shelley and my 20th wedding anniversary and for Michon’s high school graduation. I was thinking while on the French Rivera that most people take those events, staying married and graduating state-level mandated education, as normal occasions in life. Not us, we went all Robin Leach about it.

Anyway, our two weeks were a chance of a lifetime and we would love to do it again.

I know how much people are not interested in other people’s pictures of trips (not you Laura Smith, I know you will watch), but I have attached five slide shows in case you want to watch. I did not put them on youtube cause the quality is so poor, so I know that some people have a hard time watching them here, but go get Quicktime, it is free, or go get a Mac and enjoy.

I hope these don’t take too long to load.

The oder of the six.

  1. Highlight of total trip
  2. Cinqua Terra
  3. Nice
  4. Paris
  5. Rome

What did you do this summer?

Friday, August 15th, 2008

Nothin’ much, just eat a croissant, a quiche and drank orange juice on the terrace overlooking the Mediterranean Sea on the French Riviera  - Come on.

This is our last full day in Villefranche, “our” little village next to Nice. We head to Cinqua Terra tomorrow and then to Rome tomorrow evening.

We are heading into Nice for the day today and then back for a last dip in the Sea.

In Nice

Monday, August 11th, 2008

We arrived at the apartment today. We will stay here until Saturday.

The apartment and the city are beautiful. It is owned by our friend Erik who is graciously renting it to us.

After flying from Paris this morning and figuring out a car situation we arrived in Nice about 2 or 14:00. WE found our way to some lunch at a cafe and then went to the ocean.

The water was scrumptious. And very salty, which make the body buoyant. It is crazy. Maybe all the Mediterranean is like this, but we had a blast with it.

Tomorrow will be a non-travel day, our first so far. Then we will head to some of the great towns in the area.

We also ventured into a grocery store, which is a story all it’s own - apparently the French can sleep at night without a bowl of cereal - if you know what I mean, and I think you know what I mean (that is for you Professor).

I love her more today

I love this woman more today than when I married her 20 years ago today.

France and Italy this Summer

Monday, July 7th, 2008

In a once in a lifetime trip Shelley and I are going to France and Italy this summer.

We are celebrating our 20th wedding anniversary . We are also taking Michon with us her European Immersion after high school graduation.

We are looking for good travel tips and making a hopeful plea for people to take us in for a night or two.

We will be staying from August 11-16 in Nice at a Friends house. If you have input for a week in Nice let me know.

Then we will be making our way toward Rome August 17-20 and fly home from Nice on the 21st.

At this point we are still up in the air as to where we are staying in Rome, but our friend Annie will be giving us tours through her tour company.

So, any input or hookups would be fabulous.
