Live Occurrence Colorado Report

We are having a great time on the Live Occurrence Tour of A Christianity Worth Believing.

We were well cared for by Charlie in Durango, Nadia is Denver and Carl in Colorado Springs – thanks all.

We are heading out in the morning to Lincoln, Nebraska for a show Tuesday night.

Here is an email I received from a guy who attended the Denver show.

Dear Doug,

I was at your talk in Denver yesterday and I wanted to express how good it was to hear your message. I feel like I’ve been struggling with all of the issues you addressed over the last ten years, from the lack of questioning in the church, to the sacrificial atonement model, to the portrayal of man as totally depraved. You offered a compelling alternate vision – one that seems both more positive and truer to who Jesus really was and is.

After the presentation, Sally and I were both saying how much easier things would have been for us had we known you and heard your message when we were in college just starting to question the faith. I personally have had such conflict with Christianity that I left the church completely for years and have only been able to make a very partial return. Even now, I keep going to churches and being turned off by so much of what I hear. As a writer, I’ve tried to begin working towards what you have successfully done – raising a voice to try to make a difference rather than exiting the Christian family, as you put it, but it’s definitely a daunting task. The church has so much inertia, and even getting heard at all outside of my very small circle is such a challenge.  So it’s good to know that there are people like you who have broken through to a wider audience and who are trying to reclaim the faith, giving direction to those like me who struggle with the current shape of Christianity.  I hope you keep writing and speaking – your voice definitely needs to be heard! Let me know if there is any small way that I can help.
